Tania Grose-Hodge and Sandy Meadow

Tania Grose-Hodge and Sandy Meadow are the co-owners of ParentLink (www.ParentLink.org), the first organization in Asia to offer professional labor support (doula services), founded by Nikki Macfarlane in 1997. Tania and Sandy are doulas and childbirth educators certified with Childbirth International (www.childbirthinternational.com) and work with a team of other doulas, some of whom also have midwifery backgrounds. ParentLink is committed to providing evidence-based information, professionally trained childbirth education, and professional labor support, focused on helping parents develop the skills to get the birth they want.

Singapore has no system of independent midwifery care, no birth centres and no well-established homebirth system. Virtually all births are attended by obstetricians in hospitals, and the vast majority of physicians practice strict active management of labour. Some parents are comfortable with this system, typical in Singapore, while others prefer a more expectant-management approach, a more active birth, and little routine intervention, and there are some obstetricians who comfortably support that. ParentLink provides education, support, and resources to all these parents.

There is a small demand for midwives who are experienced in attending homebirths. ParentLink would welcome inquiries from any independent midwives interested in offering homebirth services in Singapore.
