Iva Podhorsky Storek is secretary of Croatian Association of Midwives, members of International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and European Midwives Association (EMA). Iva tells us, "Midwives in Croatia are in very low position because we don't have a midwifery education on university level. So our midwives are really obstetric nurses as we are not allowed to handle natural birth without presence of doctor obstetrician."
Iva says the norm is highly medicalized hospital birth. Her reply to the IAM question, "What are your goals for international midwifery?" is "We just want to be part of it and not 50 years behind."
